Seisen International School is a Catholic School run by the Handmaids
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus operated under the auspices of the
Seisen Jogakuin Education Foundation. It is recognized by the Ministry
of Education of Japan and accredited by the European Council of
International Schools and the New England Association of Schools
and Colleges.
Seisen International School provides a college-preparatory programme
which serves the needs of the diplomatic, business and professional
members of the international community and of Japanese children
who have lived abroad and wish to continue their education in English.
The Montessori Nursery and Kindergarten accepts boys and girls from
age three to five. Grades 1-12 are for girls only. Instruction is
in English. The IB programme is offered and USA College Board examinations
(including AP) are held at the school. The administration and faculty
endeavour not only to educate the students in academic areas but
also to foster their spiritual and emotional growth. A counsellor
is available to all students at all levels. Teachers are also involved
in counselling and advising students. Religious education is offered
to all students.
Teachers hold university degrees and teaching certificates in the
grade or subject for which they are responsible. Many of them have
training beyond the Bachelor degree. Seisen has 701 students from
more than 60 countries. Virtually all graduates go on to college
in the USA, UK, Japan or other countries.
Classes are held five days a week from the end of August to mid-June.
Students can take part in various co-curricular programmes (debate,
speech, drama, artscape, brainbowl, maths field, choir, bell choir,
dance), general activities and in organisations like the National
Honor Society and the Student Council. Sports offered include basketball,
cross country, tennis, track, volleyball, soccer, swimming and gymnastics.
In addition to the classrooms, the facilities at Seisen International
School include a chapel, three science laboratories, two computer
rooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, two tennis courts, playground, music
room, art room and libraries. Admission to Seisen International
School is based on previous school records, an interview and placement
test.
