The programme at Osaka International School (OIS) is designed primarily
to meet the needs of the non-Japanese families living in the Kansai
area of Japan. Operated by the Senri International School Foundation,
OIS has as its purpose the overseeing of an English language based
international curriculum for its students.
Osaka International School operates in conjunction with the Osaka
Intercultural Academy which serves the educational needs of Japanese
families returning from overseas. Programmes in music, art, computer,
and physical education are shared and taught in English at grades
7-12.
Staff are chosen on the basis of their international and linguistic
experience. Most have earned their Master's Degrees.
Students come from a variety of international backgrounds and many
are from bi-cultural families.
Osaka International School uses the modular schedule and the school
year is from September to June. Music, art, forensics and athletics
are available. Other programmes such as dance, theatre and martial
arts are also arranged depending upon demand. ESL is offered in
the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. Japanese is taught daily
in K-6 and is on elective, after achievement of proficiency level,
from grades 7-12.
Thirty-one classrooms, four science laboratories, two computer
labs, a television studio, a small and large gymnasium, three art
studios with kiln and darkroom, and a planetarium are available.
Admissions forms are included in the school brochure which explains
the programme and admission process. School records and an interview
with prospective student and parents are required, but interviews
for students not resident in Japan are waived until arrival. Scholarships
are available to the Osaka International School
