The International School of the Sacred Heart (ISSH) is situated
in the center of Tokyo. The school was founded in 1908 and belongs
to a worldwide network of the Schools of the Sacred Heart. It is
a Catholic school for girls from Kindergarten-grade 12, however,
boys are accepted into the school's co-ed Kindergarten program.
The school educates its students to decision-making in the light
of Christian principles and provides a diversified experience designed
to develop an understanding and appreciation of various languages
and cultures.
International School of The Sacred Heart offers a multi-dimensional
college preparatory program. Diversification is encouraged through
the values program, physical education program, languages, computers,
special interest group sessions, options and electives. A support
system is provided by an ESL and supplementary education program.
Students of 50 nationalities attend the school. Between 30-40 students
graduate each year and continue their education in universities
and colleges worldwide, including the USA, Europe, Australia and
Japan.
The school year runs from late August to June. The school's premises
comprise classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, an auditorium,
gymnasium, a pottery room, a drama studio, music rooms, art rooms,
libraries, a chapel, and a sports field. There is a varied after-school/extra-curricular
activities program. Excursions are offered at the beginning of each
school year for grades 5-12 and in April for grade 4.
An interview and placement test is required prior to enrollment
at International School of The Sacred Heart. Registration and tuition
fees are payable in advance. Aid may be available.
